What is the Bangor City Council Oath of Office
This is the Bangor City Council Oath of Office for Bangor, Maine as given on November 13, 2024.

I was asked what the oath of office Bangor City Council members took when they were sworn in. That’s a great question. While I don’t recall it word for word, I know I pledged to take my job seriously, to uphold the city’s Charter & Code, and complete my term. But what are the exact words new councilors say?

I tried looking for it online but couldn’t locate it. I went back to the 2024 swearing in ceremony video and pulled it from there:

“I, [state your name], do solemnly swear that I will faithfully discharge to the best of my ability the duties of the office of Bangor city councilor to which I have been duly elected. I take this obligation freely and without reservation and promise to uphold the Bangor City Charter and laws of our city. I further pledge to serve until the end of the term for which I have been chosen and until my successor has been elected, qualified, and sworn into office. So help me God.”

It was my honor to pledge this oath on November 13, 2024 and my pleasure to continue serving the people of Bangor, Maine.
