Lifeguard Openings!
The City of Bangor Parks and Recreation Department is hiring lifeguard positions for our two
outdoor pools. Our ideal candidate would be someone who is:

This position is responsible for some planning and organization of swim programs, instruction of
aquatic activities, and overall supervision of children and adults at the pools. This position is a
seasonal position running from the middle of June through August.
REQUIREMENTS
- All lifeguards must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, AED and First
Aid certification prior to the start of the season. Reimbursement for lifeguard certification
available. - Lifeguards are required to be proficient swimmers, be comfortable in the water and assist
in lifting a person. - Must be able to follow and give directions, be a quick thinker and use good safety
awareness and judgement while remaining pleasant and professional. - Must also be mentally alert to dangerous situations to ensure the safety of all patrons and
swimmers. - All pre-season trainings are mandatory.
Pay range $14.62-$16.12/hour. Flexible hours between 9:30AM – 8:00PM Monday – Sunday.

Athletic Maintenance
Under the direct supervision of the Athletic Field Maintenance Supervisor, this position provides
assistance with a variety of maintenance related activities with a variety of athletic playing fields
and facilities around the City. Sports fields must be maintained daily to provide safe and
playable areas for all users. Duties include watering, weed removal, dragging, setting bases,
lining, as well as repairing dirt and turf surfaces. Also includes assisting with custodial duties,
restroom cleaning, litter control, and complex inspection activities, identify and refer any needed
repairs discovered at any location, ability to operate a variety of power equipment including
riding mowers, motorized utility carts, and other pieces of equipment as needed. This is a 35-40
hour per week position with a pay range of $14.79 to $16.31 per hour. The duration of this
position can range from 2 to 8 months.
Starting pay is $14.79 per hour based on a 40-hour work week.
Parks Maintenance Worker
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Maintenance, this position provides assistance
with the general upkeep, and maintenance related activities within all the Parks and Recreation
Departments areas within the city. Those activities include but are not limited to, operating
various trucks, tractor, and mowers in grounds maintenance work as well as maintaining and
repairing Parks and Recreation facilities. Trash removal, parks cleanup, event setup plus all
other duties related to the department.
This shall be accomplished in compliance with established local, state, and federal standards. As
work experience is gained, employee may be assigned to somewhat more difficult tasks. This is
a 35-40 hour per week position with a pay range of $14.79 to $16.31 per hour. The duration of
this position can range from 3 to 10 months.
Parks & Open Space Seasonal Ranger
The Parks and Open Space Seasonal Ranger is responsible for providing an efficient customer
service-oriented experience. This is achieved by ensuring a well-maintained environment and
quick response to the general public needs. This position works under the direct supervision of
the Lead Park Ranger but will receive specific instruction on non-routine tasks.
Duties include:
- Patrol parks, trails, green spaces and other open spaces by motor vehicle, bicycle or
foot. - Monitor and enforce proper use of City facilities, parks, and open spaces by public
users. - Report discrepancies, problems, recommendations and needed maintenance to the
Parks and Recreation Lead Park Ranger. - Educate and advise the public on City ordinances and policies relating to park and open
space use. - Log and report contacts with unsheltered individuals to the Lead Park Ranger.
- Maintain daily patrol log
- Patrol designated areas throughout the City at specified times as a deterrent to
vandalism. - Must be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and
holidays. - Supplement Parks and Recreation staff for activities as needed.
- Monitor two-way radio.
- Responsible for answering general questions from the public regarding park amenities.
- Perform occasional maintenance duties as needed.
Starting pay is $14.79 per hour based on a 40-hour work week.
